Occasionally I come up with something worthwhile

Batman Begins

Friday, July 30 2004

There's a trailer up for the new Batman movie at the WB website. Apparently it's the "how Batman became Batman" movie and stars the guy from American Psycho as Batman. Maybe we'll be lucky and it won't suck like all but the first one.

Oh come on now, Batman Returns wasn't all that bad. Tim Burton did an excellent job with the mood of the first two films.

Don't get me started on Joel "Holy cow, look at those nipples" Schumaker, though.

Christian Bale has historically done an excellent job of playing internally conflicted characters (Empire of The Sun*, for instance), so I think he'll be perfect for the role.

*Spielberg's last, and perhaps only good film, imho.

Batman Returns was definitely better than what came after, however it was really bad. The Penguin was a terrible character choice and very poorly executed.

Batman Returns was the start of the multiple bad guy phase that helped screw up the movies (well, not to mention the terrible directors and artistic work). PLUS the Penguin was a terrible enemy. How many bad guys has Batman encountered in his history, and they decided that the Penguin was a good one to include in the movie?

Ok, I'll give you that. The penguin was a pretty poor choice of enemy, but you have to admit, catwoman was done well in that movie.

You know, in the 5+ years since last I saw batman returns, I had kinda pushed the whole penguin aspect of the story out of my mind. Now I can't get Danny Devito's vag-hands out of my mind. Thanks a lot, pal.

Sure, Catwoman was good, however she wasn't a HUGE part of the movie. Sure she definitely had a part, but she was clearly the secondary bad guy and was only in the movie for filler material.

I, too, hate Danny Devito's vag-hands.
